Why Did We Build DAYBFOR Around the Night Before?

I built DAYBFOR around the night before because I wanted skincare to offer a comfortable moment of preparation when tomorrow means something to you. The idea began at a K-pop fan signing event, where seeing people ready to meet an artist they loved made me think about the evening that had come before.

That became the starting point for our concept, The Night Before Your Big Day. Before there was a product to introduce, there was a feeling I wanted to make room for: the anticipation of a day you care about, with a little more ease in getting ready.

The moment that stayed with me

Through my work running COKODIVE, a global K-pop merchandise platform, I happened to attend a fan signing event. I saw fans who had taken care in getting ready to meet an artist they loved. What stayed with me was that preparation—the attention people give to a moment that matters to them.

I found myself imagining their night before. Had they been excited? Had it been difficult to fall asleep? Those were my thoughts, not things the fans told me. I did not know what their evenings had actually been like. But wondering about them helped me see a moment I wanted DAYBFOR to speak to.

The event was the beginning of the idea. The idea itself reached beyond it: people preparing for something they have been looking forward to, and wanting to feel ready when that day arrives.

A big day can be personal

I began thinking about other occasions: a date, meeting a partner’s family, or seeing old friends at a reunion. These were the kinds of moments I wanted the brand to fit into. They do not have to be public occasions to feel important to the person experiencing them.

What connected those situations, for me, was the wish to feel prepared. Skincare could be one part of the evening before: time at home to pay attention to yourself before your attention turns to the people you are about to meet.

Why that idea became a mask

I chose a sheet mask as a way to create a focused moment for skincare at home. I wanted the experience to be approachable: one part of an evening that you could understand and make time for, without turning preparation into a complicated project.

DAYBFOR is the brand, and D-1 Bio-Cellulose Mask is the product that grew from that idea. A bio-cellulose mask—also written as a biocellulose mask—takes its material name from the sheet. That material description and the reason I started the brand answer different questions. One tells you about the product; the other explains the moment I had in mind.

If you would like to understand the sheet itself, our Journal introduction, What Is a Bio-Cellulose Sheet Mask?, explores that question separately. Here, I want to explain why the time before an important day became our starting point.

One considered moment, with less to juggle

I want to share in the excitement people feel before an important day. When someone uses our product, I hope they feel comfortable taking care of themselves. Instead of feeling that they have to do several things at once, I want them to enjoy giving one thing their attention.

That wish is about the experience I hope to offer. D-1 is one optional part of a routine, not a replacement for every skincare step. The American Academy of Dermatology describes a simple foundation of cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection, and notes that using multiple products can irritate skin. [1]

My hope is that feeling you have taken care of yourself can be part of approaching tomorrow with confidence. It is a founder’s intention, not a promise that one mask will produce perfect skin or a particular change by morning.

An invitation for your evening

That is what I mean by the night before: making space to prepare, and letting that preparation feel comfortable. If tomorrow matters to you, I hope DAYBFOR can have a small place in the evening that leads up to it.
